Sofía Ruescas is a junior Communication Studies major at St. Mary’s University and a student athlete that plays in the women’s golf team. She enjoys connecting with people through music, film and photography as well as interacting through social media with online communities.
Ruescas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of three, she moved to Madrid, Spain along with her family, where she grew up and studied until she graduated from high school at IES Joan Miró in 2017. During her high school years, she participated in international study abroad programs in Dublin, Ireland; Hamburg, Germany; and Moscow, Russia.
She moved to St. Mary’s University, located in San Antonio, Texas, to pursue a marketing degree but after three semesters she switched to the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and discovered her passion for video editing.
She enjoyed it so much that she decided to create a PSA for one of her communication classes as a final project and, encouraged by her professor, she submitted her video to a national contest organized by PSAid. Both surprised and inspired by winning the first place in the video category, she continues to grow as a communicator.
Ruescas will graduate in May 2021 and is looking forward to keep learning and aspires to achieve a position as a digital communicator and gain experience to start her own company someday.
